About PDFTools

Free online PDF tools built for privacy, speed, and simplicity.

Our Story

PDFTools started with a simple frustration: every online PDF tool either required an account, had file size limits, added watermarks, or uploaded files to unknown servers.

We believed there had to be a better way. With modern browser APIs and powerful JavaScript libraries like PDF.js and pdf-lib, it's possible to process PDFs entirely in the browser — no server uploads required.

Today, PDFTools offers 15 PDF tools that work completely client-side. Your files stay on your device. Your privacy is respected. And it's all free.

Our Values

ShieldPrivacy First

Your files never leave your device. All processing happens locally in your browser. No uploads, no tracking, no data collection.

GiftFree Forever

Essential PDF tools should be accessible to everyone. Our core features are completely free with no hidden costs.

ZapFast & Simple

No complex interfaces. No account creation. Just upload, process, and download. Designed for efficiency.

CodeOpen Standards

Built on open-source libraries. Transparent about capabilities and limitations. No vendor lock-in.

Technology

PDFTools is built with modern web technologies:

  • Next.js 14 - React framework with App Router
  • TypeScript - Type-safe development
  • Tailwind CSS - Utility-first styling
  • pdf-lib - PDF creation and manipulation
  • PDF.js - PDF rendering and text extraction
  • Tesseract.js - OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
  • Lucide React - Beautiful icons

All processing happens in your browser using WebAssembly-compiled libraries. No files are sent to our servers.

Transparency

We believe in being honest about what our tools can and cannot do:

  • Client-side processing: Files never leave your device
  • No fake features: Every tool actually works
  • Honest limitations: PDF to Word is a text-level conversion, and Unlock PDF reports AES-256-protected files as unsupported instead of faking an output
